I wore a rose
High at my throat
Loving to catch
The scent of it
From time to time
And then you tore
It from me, as
If I’d stolen it
And crushed it
With your angry feet
And now the scent
Sickens me.
Bjorn is tending the bar at the poets’ pub tonight and is asking for quadrilles with the word “rose” in them.
You should take a look at what’s happening over there.
Oh how a scent can throw you off when it’s filled with betrayal.

Betrayal. A truly sickening emotion that can turn joy to sorry and sweet smells to nasty. Angry feet – wonderful description of them.

Smell is the most basic sense of all.

I think that strong sense of smell begins at birth when we associate so much around us with its scent. And truly having a negative experience can even spoil the beautiful fragrance of a rose…too bad.

I’m finding that a rose isn’t the beautiful expression for all hearts. Makes me rethink its purpose, Sarah. A pointed poem, sharp and cutting!

It’s so sad that such a beautiful scent can trigger bitter memories.

There are times when I find the smell of roses overpowering and sickly. I like the way you have captured the scent of betrayal.

I was thinking of the English rose. It’s subtly political – obviously far too subtle, but it pleased me!

It’s a shame when beautiful things can turn ugly. I like the strong voice that comes through in this piece.

The scent of betrayal and rejection–so sad. Something like that changes our perception and stays with us.

Some people can really wreck one’s life – ripping our beautifully scented roses from us – something that wasn’t there’s and they didn’t want it – they just didn’t want us to have it.
