And as I am a glutton for punishment, here is my second rondelet for Jane Dougherty’s poetry challenge #37. The rhythm is a tricky one, but I think we’re getting there.
Journey makers
We’ve travelled far,
You and I, through the great wide world,
We’ve travelled far,
Two backpacks, a tent, a guitar,
And we’ve watched the sunrise unfurl
Roads of diamonds, oceans of pearls –
We’ve travelled far.
Gorgeous! The repeated line really works well here. I love the line: We’ve watched the sunrise unfurl roads of diamonds, oceans of pearls.

Thank you. Yes, I think I got it a bit better second time around!

There’s a more magical element in the second poem that appeals to me.

I’ve spent years feeling a bit embarrassed by my magical, fantasy side, but I’m starting to think it works…

It’s the only thing that works for me—it’s called escapism, and Jesus do we need it!

Yes, those two lines are great.

There’s something about pearls. You can chuck them into any dull sentence and it’s transformed into poetry 🙂

Oi!
You’re probably right, actually…😊

I didn’t mean by that that your phrase minus pearls would have been dull. But I think you know that 🙂

I also prefer this poem. The first one was fine, but I agree that there is a magical quality to this one–and the road of diamonds, oceans of pearls line is splendid.

Thank you. I prefer it, too. I wanted to capture some of that treasure that seems to be lying in the bottom of the boat. I’m guessing that’s where all those lady pirates came from…
