Storm – for dVerse

She wore a dress
like a summer storm
when the clouds bubble
impossible forms;
she brought lightning’s electric scent,
and the threat
of thunder to come
and yet
we were drawn
towards her light,
the brittle light
of just before
a June
downpour.

The very wonderful De is hosting at dVerse tonight. It’s quadrille night – 44 words – and the key word is “storm”.

  1. Holy cow, what a gorgeous, perfect line:
    “She wore a dress
    like a summer storm”

This could be a novel starter, really. Who wouldn’t automatically want to meet her?

  2. I also love the dress like a summer storm but I especially love the lines:
    ‘when the clouds bubble
    impossible forms’
    and
    ‘the brittle light
    of just before
    a June
    downpour’.

  3. Oh my gosh, that opening is phenomenal:
    “She wore a dress
    like a summer storm”

    I seriously want that dress.

    I also really like this:
    “she brought lightning’s electric scent,
    and the threat
of thunder” … but I love the entire piece.

  4. You had me with the first two lines! She sounds sassy and like she’d sashay into a room and twirl through — like a tornado touching just a few and then out the door she’d go. Much more adventurous than that slow soaking rain 😊
