Fear grabbed me in the bathroom –
a kiss that left me bruised and hurting –
I can still taste it now,
if I think about it.
Fear texts me all the time,
drops postcards in the mail,
rings like a mad ex at 2 am,
won’t stop calling me.
That bitch Courage never showed,
never writes, never phones,
it’s like she doesn’t know me.
None of us are brave.
It’s just that we keep going,
one step, then another.
For Jilly’s 28 Days of Unreason. Today’s Jim Harrison quotation is:
“Fear makes for good servants
and bravery is fraudulent”

Ouch! That’s a really painful poem. and so true. Well done – great writing!

So good! “That bitch courage never showed” is terrific. And no, none of us (and all of us) are brave.

Laughing out loud – that bitch courage! And all the places that fear accosts you are so familiar. LOVE what you did with this!

Personally fear in the bathroom leaves me with other results, but yes, this rings so true.
Well done!

Oh, Merril, lowering the tone! Thank you. The bathroom felt like a very intimate place to be invaded, and it’s a place where we observe our own bodies.
