There was a dragon
in the valley, curled
like a white cat:
each scale a pearl;
each breath a cloud
of soft white silk –
’til the whole valley
was a bowl of milk –
as the sun brightens
with the coming day,
such dragons fade.
De – the wonderful WhimsyGizmo – is hosting at dVerse tonight, and here be dragons. Our quadrilles are infested with the pesky things…
I love such a gentle dragon… sometimes I almost wish that dawn would last…

I shall never look at morning mist in the same way again. Funny, I had pearls and breath too.

LOVE this! The way it begins reminds me of “And to Think that I Saw it on Mulberry Street” by Dr. Seuss. We should all bring a little more imagination into the day, I think. Love this, especially:
“each scale a pearl;
each breath a cloud”
Breathtaking.

Aw thank you. Yes, I know Mulberry St. We’ve travelled through Seuss-land quite often!

A fog dragon, gentle as mist, white as goose down–what alovely image. Nice to bathe in the positive ions, rather than only the fire and the fury.

Now, you see, you’ve added to the myth already. White as goose down – so soft as well. Lovely.

This is gorgeous, Sarah: each scale a pearl and each breath a cloud – and a valley of dragon milk! Such a shame the dragons had to fade.

Ah, well, those early morning dragons don’t hang around for long.

I’ve been away from computer land due to health, some quite big scary stuff but so happy to be back and to see your beautiful magic still taking place. Your poem is totally enchanting.

Ah, we too have dragons such as this. Always a treat to catch them before they melt away. Perfectly captured in verse, Sarah; I shall think of your words next tme I come upon a dragon in our valley 🙂

I could see this as the inverse of a bedtime tale – one to tell a child each day, on waking.
