Night rain
I had forgotten
your voice
yet here you are
like an old friend
A tanka for Frank, who is hosting at dVerse tonight. We are celebrating National Tanka Month, and looking at 3 Japanese 5 line forms. Frank gives a straightforward explanation on his dVerse post. I’ve written many haiku, but this is my first tanka.
‘Hello darkness (night rain) my old friend…’ It’s a comfort when it rains at night, to know that everything will be fresh and ready to start again in the morning. I LOVE this!

Nothing like the sound of rain on the roof when one is snug abed. No other sound more peaceful!

Yes, night rain makes a comforting sound. I like this five-liner. I can never tell what’s a tanka and what isn’t, but this is a lovely poem.
