The first sunrise of 2021 was a smear of raspberry pink over a monochrome world that crunched under foot. We discovered a new walk, and that we have made some new friends over the last year. At the top of the hill we looked back over a landscape that we know well, made new and different by a change in perspective. I think that perspective will be the only thing that changes over the next few weeks. Our plans are blown around like so many brown leaves. We’re entering a new lockdown. It’s like we’re not moving, we’re just bobbing up and down, waiting to set sail.

Lill is hosting at dVerse tonight. We’re at the start of a brand new year, and Lill wants us to think about new beginnings.
Very beautifully penned!

I so much recognize the world you are describing… the small changes every day… the walks that take you out and back again. That new walk, or another viewpoint… this has been our world now since March.

Oh Sarah….this is beautifully written!
These words just resonate with me….”Our plans are blown around like so many brown leaves. We’re entering a new lockdown. It’s like we’re not moving, we’re just bobbing up and down, waiting to set sail.” And your traditional haiku is just perfect for this.
My heart goes out to the UK with a new lockdown. And here in the US, our cases are rising and we have the still tumultuous situation of Trump in office and the havoc he is still creating. sigh
But the vaccine for me, is the light at the end of this tunnel…..but the tunnel is still long and narrow.

I identify with your description. Bobbing up and down in a strange limbo over which we have little control. I long for the company of my like-minded friends over long lunches comparing our senior lives, and I am grateful for our community of poets.

The new perspective is the silver lining of what we are living through. I have read that the alignment of the planets in 2021 signifies a shift, an awakening, in humankind. We live in hope. Whatever comes, our poems chart our journeys. So glad I get to read yours.

Sarah,
I always enjoy reading your words. This part captures how I am feeling today, “It’s like we’re not moving, we’re just bobbing up and down, waiting to set sail.”
Hang in there,

It feels very much like this here: we’ve been locked down for around 9 weeks now, but if circumstances demand then I prefer it to the alternative, It’s all about perspective, and that is what you’ve given us here. There is always something to be grateful for!

I love the artistic image of the ‘smear of raspberry pink over a monochrome world’ – like a photograph – and discovering a new walk with you. You’re right about the change of perspective, Sarah – everything else will stay the same. I’m royally fed up of bobbing up and down.

Wonderful flow of thoughts. I like the focus on perspective, one positive gain from all of this. We are in lock down again as well, watching numbers climb. I am quite content to wait it out. Nice imagery in the last line of your prose!

That bobbing up and down, definitely!! And then that vision of us as brown leaves blown. Oh yes! I feel it Sarah. And you captured it perfectly, perhaps sadly.
