On winter nights I often
see the moon, caught
in the branches of a tree.
I wonder if she’s trapped
there, or embraced?
I should know. She
always rises, bright
and free. I should remember
that it takes a planet
to entangle her.
A quadrille for Merril at dVerse, where our word is “embrace”.
I think she’s just playing peek-a-boo behind the trees 🙂

I love the idea of the moon embraced by the branches of a tree, Sarah 😀 this is beyond beautiful! ❤️❤️

I really like this, Sarah. Lovely image of the moon embraced in trees, and thoughtful. The moon always rises.
Those last lines remind me of what i was thinking about with all those space ships converging on Mars–that it won’t be the same.

A stunning moon quadrille, Sarah! Trapped or embraced ’She always rises, bright and free’.

I love all of this but that last sentence is amazing Sarah!

That’s an interesting thought, that if the moon is going to be entangled by anything, it will be us.

Our Lady Moon waxes and wanes, skips behind trees and rises above in brightness, a recurring promise to renew our spirit.

Deeper into the woods, when you NEVER see the moon un-entangled, it’s hard to think “embrace”, far more easy to consider it captive.
Succinct and wonderfully presented, Sarah.

The tension between “entangled” and “embraced” is very nice.

I like how you pose the question about the moon in the sky – is she trapped or embraced by the trees? Nicely done.

Very nicely done! An embrace usually lasts for only a moment! She always rises in the end!

I really like the thought that moon can’t really be caught in the tree, but the moment seemed possible.

these are the only two appropriate ways to use “should”

Embraced over the ages, though distant, but now within reach. How long before we take her for granted, just another rock to be trapped and exploited. I’d prefer to see her held by those tree branches.
