Six flames
flickered on
the birthday cake-
pink icing
with white roses,
or green bubbling
frosting
or bright sunshine
buttercream
churned with
love
and words
so many words
stuffed between
cloudy layers
of sweet cake,
coiled dark, like
cherries,
words spilling
over the plate.
It’s dVerse’s 6th birthday, so there should be cake.
A very good poem. Thanks for sharing!

PERFECT Anniversary poem! LOVE it! Most especially these words:
“or bright sunshine
buttercream
churned with
love”
And I’ve been nibbling at these celebratory words all morning…enjoying every taste…with word (crumbs) spilling over the plate! 🙂

Okay, I read this poem differently. “…so many words / …coiled dark, / like cherries, / words spilling
/ over the plate.” To me, this rang of an emotionally dark undertow. And I’m usually a cheery guy!

I read sensuous in the dark cherry beneath the sweetness. Lovely idea for an anniversary poem and so well written – “and words
so many words
stuffed between
cloudy layers”
